To date, 25 million people have died from AIDS. 41 million live with HIV/AIDS every day. Globally, half of those living with HIV are women and half are men. With access to care, people can survive HIV/AIDS. And yet, the stigma around it remains as deadly as the virus itself. HIV leads to shame and isolation. It keeps people from getting the lifesaving help they deserve.
When those of us living with HIV share our status, we are more likely to get treatment and support. We are no longer ashamed—nor alone. Our stories educate and inspire others. Our stories help prevent future cases of HIV.
The stories of people living with HIV—both those of people who are infected with and those who are affected by HIV—can change the way the world sees AIDS. But to change the face of AIDS, the world needs to see ours.
If you are HIV positive, know someone who's HIV positive, or just want to tell your story of HIV to the world, . Once we have collected enough stories, Our Dignity will go live. When it does, we'll tell you (by e-mail) when you'll be featured on Our Dignity. We'll give you an "airtime" so that you can alert friends and family to watch as you become part of a new AIDS movement, one that will help restore to all of us living with HIV what should never have been lost—our basic human dignity.
